Guidelines for a Great Practice

Before Class:
· Don't eat too soon or too much before practicing
· Drink water so that you are hydrated
· Wear comfortable clothes that aren't too baggy. Teachers need to see leg alignment to give you the best instruction.

Arriving:
· Do your best to be on time.  Get here 5-10 or even 15 minutes before so that you can set up your mat and settle in; it makes a difference.  If on occasion you are late, listen at the door to avoid interrupting the opening.  Use your discretion and come in gently after the chant.
· Bring your shoes up stairs so that you are never on the stairs in bare feet or with socks - it's too slippery.
· Please sign in; it helps me keep records
· Always tell me of any physical injuries/pain before class.

During Class:
· About the chant - it is in Sanskrit, the traditional language of yoga.  Cards with the words and translation are available.  Feel free to participate or not, as you wish.  Chanting is another way to focus your attention and energy.
· If you are not familiar with the poses and/or their names, place your mat so that you can watch a more experienced student.
· Ask pertinent questions as they arise
· Do the appropriate variation of a pose for you that day. Don't overeffort
· Drink a minimum of water if you get thirsty - sip, don't gulp.
· Ladies, do not do inversions if you have your period.

After Class:
· Drink plenty of water to re-hydrate and to flush out toxins that the practice has released.
· Make sure you feel fully awake and grounded before you turn on the ignition.
· Appreciate any muscle soreness in the days after class as a sign that you are waking up areas that need it!
